The Bobcat!!

Hey you guys!! Wow... I haven't posted anything in a VERY long time. Oops... heh...
Anyways! I've decided for today, to do a post on Bobcats, since my mom and sister saw one not too long ago. Plus I mean, have you seen a Bobcat? Then look AWESOME. So! On to the more professional sounding part of this blog post..

So! Like always, I will show you guys a picture of a Bobcat! Here ya goes:
Yeah, they're pretty adorable! And they look pretty much just like big house cats. Except that they have a little knobbed tail, that's usually only about ten inches. Unlike the long tail of a house cat. And, as you can see, they have hair that sticks up on their ears.

All Bobcats are usually this Tan, Brown kind of color. And they have spots and stripes all over their fur. A lot of people mistake a Lynx for a Bobcat. Which actually makes sense since they look a lot alike:

Since you are able to see both of these pictures side by side, you can probably see the obvious differences between a Lynx and a Bobcat. Such as the Lynx's longer legs and bigger paws. Plus the Lynx have more hair underneath their chin that kind of looks like a beard. Whereas the Bobcat does not. But, you can see the similarities as well, the pointed tuft of hair coming out from the ears, and the short tail. Also the fur color is the same, and they both have spots and stripes all over their fur.

Another difference between the Lynx and Bobcat is that they live in pretty different places. The Lynx lives in most of Canada and in most of Russia. It also lives in parts of Asia and Europe. The Bobcat only lives in most of North America, they adapt well to very different places, such forests and swamps, and suburban's, sometimes even deserts.

Bobcats are carnivores, so they eat meat. They can hunt animals larger then themselves, but usually like to go after rabbits, squirrels, and other small mammals. Occasionally they will eat livestock as well, but not the cows and horses, more likely the pigs and sheep. When the bobcat hunts it hunts with stealth. Hiding in bushes and in tall grasses, then using a leaping pounce of up to ten feet to kill the animal it's after.

Most bobcats will start breeding during their second summer, though some start their first year. The females will usually give birth to two or four kits. But sometimes they will have as many as six, or only one. The females usually raise their young alone, with her kits staying with their mother for 9 to 12 months. While they are with their mother, they are learning to hunt, usually being able to hunt alone by their first fall. Once they learn to hunt, they will leave her.

Bobcats will usually live about 10 to 12 years in the wild, but sometimes only six or eight years. The longest they have been know to live is 16 years in the wild, and 32 in captivity.
Sadly, like most animals, Bobcats are sometimes trapped for their soft fur. But still, the North America population of Bobcats is quite large, with as many as one million Bobcats in the United States alone. They are the most abundant cat in the U.S. and they have the greatest range of any wild cat in North America.

I hope you enjoyed this post about Bobcats! I will try to post more, but I cant make any promises!
If you have any suggestions for animals I should write about, feel free to comment!
